River Cleanup Innitiatives, 2026
River Cleanup and Skill Devellopment Trip, head by MHO Director Erin Pehar, Jully, 2026. Program Overview>
” Friends of Dumoine is proud to cooperate with this excellent initiative by MHO Adventures. MHO Director Erin Pehar is also on Friends of Dumoine Board of Directors
Together we have created this preseason program designed to give young leaders a full orientation to the skills required to guide on the Dumoine including a one day intense seminar about the watersheds rich history and current conservation efforts in the watershed.
The river will be running at an exciting high water level testing your whitewater skills. En route the trip is designed for you to do some meaningful river conservation and cleanup work and share ideas with other camps and companies guides.
Apply bellow and I look forward to explaining how to observe the signs of the rivers rich history.”

History
Friends of Dumoine researches and writes stories for social media, as well as for the point-of-interest signs that tell the story of the human activity that has taken place along the river and the Dumoine watershed. We work with the Wolf Lake First Nation to encourage its members to return to the Dumoine watershed for traditional activities.
Our major project for 2025 is to develop the historic campsite at the mouth of the Dumoine. We are also looking for archeological assistance at four settlement sites along the trail.

Safety and Maintenance
Trail crews look after all five sectors of the trail. In 2024, an emergency plan was developed in collaboration with SAR North Renfrew, Zec Dumoine, MRC Pontiac, and Air Medic, all of which could be involved with a rescue.
Friends of Dumoine constantly needs volunteers to help with trail maintenance. Volunteers will initially work with a mentor, and then have the opportunity to become mentors themselves.
Governance and Nominations
Friends of Dumoine writes the by-laws and policies; manages meeting protocols; acquires insurance; pursues charitable status; maintains the organization’s records online; screens board nominations; and, generally keeps everything in line with government regulations.
Secretary
Friends of Dumoine is responsible for all membership and financial transactions; book-keeping; minute-taking at board meetings and AGMs; and, filing year-end reports.
We would be happy to hear from anyone in the Ottawa/Gatineau area who might be able to help us with book-keeping and general office administration.

Nature and Conservation
Friends of Dumoine researches, writes signage and publishes information about the natural environment. In this, we follow the lead of our partner, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), with which we also work to advocate for greater protection for other parts of the Dumoine watershed.
Self-Propelled Activities
This committee pursues the development and protection of trails and campsites throughout the watershed. Among the activities we support are canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, and hiking.
We strive to keep the river clean and safe. If you are planning a trip to the Dumoine River, please contact us for information on routes, outfitters, shuttle services, and river conditions.
Paddlers, we have a list of minor work projects recommended by other paddlers to keep the upper river healthy (moving thunder boxes, cutting sweepers away, removing dead limbs around campsites, etc). If your group is capable of doing a small task safely, please contact us in advance of your trip, or if you see a task requiring volunteers, contact: director@friendsofdumoine.ca
Fundraising
Each director carries out fundraising activities through their individual contacts; however, Friends of Dumoine is looking for a skilled volunteer coordinator to help with fundraising.
